Graduate Research Partnership

Gotham Bat Conservancy &
Unity Environmental University

Advancing bat conservation.

Overview

Gotham Bat Conservancy partners with Unity Environmental University to support graduate students conducting applied research that directly informs bat conservation. Through this collaboration, students design and implement research alongside GBC.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to learning, community-engaged research, and conservation outcomes that matter.

The Partnership

Graduate students at Unity Environmental University collaborate with GBC staff and advisors to:

  • Develop research questions grounded in active conservation needs

  • Design and implement field-based or analytical studies

  • Apply tools such as acoustic surveying, habitat assessments, GIS, and statistical analysis

  • Translate findings into meaningful answers to be applied to bat conservation.

Projects are conducted under academic supervision at Unity, with field mentorship and logistical support from GBC.

Benefits

Graduate students in this program benefit from:

  • One-on-one collaboration with conservation practitioners and resources

  • Access to real monitoring programs and datasets

  • Opportunities to collaborate with city agencies, land managers, and community partners

  • Professional development in field methods, data analysis, and science communication

Our goal is to help emerging conservation scientists build strong research.
